As you can see, this is one fun kit! And, I want to share with you what I've created, so far, with it. I started with this menu board. I REALLY need on to keep me focused and organized, so picked up a frame and figured I would figure the rest of it out as I went along. As it happens, my kit arrived the same day I purchased the frame, and once I opened the kit I knew it would be perfect for this project.
I had to keep the decorations minimal (and flat) since the entire thing is behind glass. So, the wasi tape was perfect, along with a couple of die cut flowers.

And a close up:

Here it is, all ready to go:

Now, my second project was a layout. I used a sketch from the Studio Calico blog as inspiration and went to town working with the beautiful AC papers. For the envie, I wrapped with with twine and finished it off with one of the super darling SC paper clips.

A close up of the title treatment:

I loved the design on the background paper, so decided to add some stitching:

I told you it was going to be a busy blogging day! Now I'm off to do a little purging and hopefully (if I'm lucky) a little scrapping :)

Final Layouts with the July BOAF Kit

Happy Friday, Ladies!
The heat and humidity has slacked a little bit for us (at least yesterday and today) which makes me (and the overworked a/c) happy :)

Today I have several things to share. First, the last two layouts that I created with the July Birds of a Feather Kit. This kit was so much fun to work with, and I love how I could get two totally different looks from one kit. In fact, I showed that with these last two layouts. Both of them are about soccer, but I ended up with two totally different looks.

This first layout is for Zack, Mr. Soccer, himself. I used a picture from the fall season, which was his first with the high school team. He was the only freshman to be a varsity starter, and this picture shows why. He will always fight for the ball, and won't give up until he wins. Also, he had to work hard to get his starting position (he beat out the Asst. Coach's son, who was a junior), busting his rear during the summer and pre-season to prove to the coaches that he was the one.
For this layout, I went with the cardstock and Jillibean Soup papers from the kit.

This second layout was created for my favorite MLS soccer team, the New England Revolution. I've been a huge fan of theirs ever since I started watching soccer. When I saw the Authentique papers, I knew they would be perfect for this layout because the Revolutions colors are red, white and blue.

As you can see, this kit was full of possibilities. You can see what the other Scrap Chicks created HERE

Well, I'm off for now, but please check back later today for a look at the August Birds of a Feather Kit AND a super exciting announcement ;)

July Birds of a Feather Kit

It's another HOT and HUMID day for us here in southern Ohio, and I have to admit, I'm getting so tired of all this heat! We've had weeks of this stuff, and that's so unusual for us, even in the middle of August. Thankfully, we don't have much to do, so I'm thinking playing in the pool and scrapping are in my future!

Like I said in my last post, I have more layouts to share with you, and today I want to share those layouts that I've created using the July Birds of a Feather kit:

Now, when I first saw this kit, I was overwhelmed; I got stuck on the whole red, white and blue/patriotic theme. So, I decided to run with that idea for one layout, then pushed myself to look beyond the theme for all my other layouts.

This first layout uses a picture I took of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington DC. I decided to add one of the many pictures that I had of the tombstones at Arlington National Cemetery, too. I then grabbed a Page Map sketch and went to work.  I tried to keep the layout pretty simple, to let the pictures be the star of the layout.

This second layout came about because the star and Jillibean Soup papers all had stars on them, which reminded me of a sports layout. The large CI die cut star was the perfect accent piece for this design, which also started with a sketch (this time from Creative Scrappers). The #16 is there because that is Zack's number, both for the high school team and for his Pride team, and I loved the varsity feel of them.

Here is a close up of the title. I used the blue alphas in the blue star, and really liked the way it looked.

This third layout came about after Tuesday's counseling session. The counselor told me that Kal just isn't wired the way that we are (something I've said for a long time now). She went on to say that we now need to help Kal discover just WHO is Kaleb Michael. And thus, this layout was created. I loved all the stars that were included in the kit, so ran with that theme when thinking up a title.

And a couple of close ups:

Now, this last layout was inspired by the quilted and chevron looks that I've been seeing on Pinterest and all over the internet. It was also inspired by a layout from a fellow XOXO DT member,  Christa Uttley. I created the random background using punched squares that I cut in two. I created the bunched "ribbon" along the bottom by simply folding a strip of patterned paper. Finally, I used a fussy cut heart and two different alphas (from the kit and add-ons) to create my title.

And a close up of the title:

Now that I've pushed myself outside my comfort zone with this kit, I'm REALLY having fun! And that, my followers, is why I love being part of this team. I am given a kit, and no matter what, I have to create with it. And to be honest, those kits that push me the hardest out of my comfort zone, are the ones that yield some of my favorite layouts :)

It's July!

Happy July, All!
I have to admit, that I thought I would have a ton of time to scrap, blog and just relax, but so far it's been anything but calm and relaxing. Zack decided to take Spanish 2 in summer school, instead of taking it next year. Add to that open fields for soccer, gymnastics and counseling sessions, and the time has just flown by me!

Now, I have managed to find lots of time to scrap, and want to share some of them with you.

First off, I have a few more layouts to share using the June Birds of a Feather kit.

This first layout was created using flowers that I created for a tutorial over at Birds of a Feather. Now, I didn't come up with this technique, it's just one that I've wanted to try for a while.
Here is the step-by-step tutorial: Paper Flowers
And, here is the layout that I created using the flowers:

And a couple of close ups of the flowers:

This next layout is a special one for my middle son, Kaleb Michael. In May we found out that one of our cats, Lady Jade, was dying from acute kidney failure. She was Kal's favorite, his baby girl, and it was a very hard time for the entire family, but especially him. However, he was a trooper through it all, and I wanted to document the story for him. I also used the last picture that I took of Lady Jade and Kal for this layout.

Here is the story. I tucked this behind the smaller picture.

This next layout is also for Kal. He LOVES to read, and we often talk about how books can take us to far off wonderful places. Thus, the travel themed papers and embellies were perfect for this type of layout.

Now, other then working with my kits, I also managed to join in the fun over at the June From Here 2 Scrapternity crop. It felt great to create without deadlines AND to dig into my stash and use up some older papers and embellies :D

Here is the layout that I created for the challenge I hosted. For this one I wanted you to be inspired by clothing. This saying came from a t-shirt that I've thought about buying for Zack.

This layout was for a challenge where we had to create a double layout. It was just the push I needed to get started back on my Project 12 album.

This layout was created for a Something Old, Something New, Something borrowed & Something blue challenge. I was inspired by a layout from Nichole N. That was my borrowed part.

This layout was created for the recipe challenge. I loved using these papers and think I may need to pick up a few more pieces :D

This layout was created for a flower challenge.  I loved using these older Rusted Sun papers and embellies.

This layout was created for the sketch challenge. There were lots of circles on it, and that of course, led me to soccer balls :D

This last layout was created for a Summer challenge. Again, I loved digging out some older Echo Park papers and embellies.

Well, I have lots more to share, but think I will end it for tonight. However, I will be back later this weekend to share more layouts for my Project 12 album and all the layouts that I've created using the July Birds of a Feather Kit.
TGIF, All!
